ARTIFICIAL MEMBRANELESS ORGANELLE

Taking inspiration from the function and architecture of the natural membraneless organelles, we aim to take a bottom-up molecular-structural-mimicking method to reconstruct IDP-mimetics macromolecules, namely, intrinsically disordered protein-mimicking polymer-peptide hybrids (IPHs) as a new class bio-inspired materials. We are currently working on:
  • Constitution and characterization of liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) from IPH in vitro
  • Investigation of the impact of molecular parameters on LLPS
  • Synthesis of AMOs from complex coacervation of IPH and nucleic acids
  • Theoretical investigation and modeling of the underlying thermodynamics of LLPS of IPHs and AMOs
  • Functional mimicking of MOs as compartmentalized biochemical reactors including ribozyme catalysis
  • Applications as novel non-viral gene delivery vehicles
